How to Choose the Right TV Size

Picking the right TV size isn't just about getting the biggest screen you can afford — it's about matching the screen to your room, your seating distance, and how you actually watch. A TV that's too big for a small room can feel overwhelming, while one that's too small makes you squint from the couch.

The single most important factor is how far you'll sit from the screen. For 4K TVs, the sweet spot is 1 to 1.5 times the screen's diagonal measurement. So for a 65" TV, sitting 5.5 to 8 feet away is ideal. 1080p TVs need more distance because the pixels are larger — about 1.5 to 2.5 times the diagonal.

Mounting style matters too. Wall-mounted TVs can go slightly larger since they sit flush and don't take up floor space. If you have an open floor plan where you watch from the kitchen or while moving around, a bigger TV with a swivel mount gives you the best flexibility.
